The skin, which primarily performs protective functions, amongst others, against bacterial, fungal and viral infections, mechanical, thermal and chemical damage, as well as light and radiation, is almost constantly exposed to the harmful effects of externa factors.

Moreover, its task is to take care of our perception. The receptors found in the skin help us feel such sensations as heat, pain and touch. The skin around the natural openings of our body (the mouth, nostrils, anus, vagina, etc.) is transformed into mucous membranes, which are very sensitive, making it subject to additional risks of damage or ingress of harmful organisms into the body. The human skin is the thinnest on the eyelids and the thickest on the heel. Despite this, the latter is not protected against microorganisms either. One of the most common conditions affecting contemporary dermatological patients is mycosis. The most common varieties of this disease affect the hands, oral cavity, groins, finger/toe nails, penis, vagina, skin, scalp and feet.
